    The U.S. Dept. of Commerce (DOC) has begun a series of roundtable discussions with manufacturers to explore ideas for a congressional manufacturing initiative that could help the seriously ailing manufacturing sector. In a speech before the National association of Manufacturers (NAM), Don Evans stated that the goals of the roundtable discussions are to identify the challenges facing U.S. manufacturing and outline a strategy for ensuring that the government is doing all it can to create the conditions that will allow manufacturers to maximize their competitiveness and spur economic growth.
